I spent my life in leadership in the United Methodist Church so I come to this review, and this church, from a different perspective--the perspective of a lifelong Protestant searching for a more intimate spiritual experience in worship. I started exploring Catholicism because I wanted to participate in Eucharist more often and, after much study, thought and prayer, came to a new found appreciation of Catholic devotion.

This church is a valid expression of the ancient Catholic tradition and enjoys the fundamentals of historic Catholicism: Sacraments, Apostolic Succession and appreciation for 2000 years of theology and example as shown to us in the saints. The teaching is Biblical and sound. The social aspect is more liberal that what you would expect in a typical Saddleback or Calvary experience.

Although historically and authentically Catholic, our roots are traced to Rome prior to 1870 and not currently in connection with Rome, but Catholic none the less. I am very blessed that my wife joined me on this faith journey.

After attending mass at Roman Catholic churches we visited St. Matthew ECC one Sunday mass in January of 2015 and have been coming back every week since. We immediately found a new church home and never looked back. Join us and see!

  • The following reflects my personal opinions....I may have one or two of them. I do not speak for the church, but I'll be happy to chat about it....

I just LOVE Saint Matthew Ecumenical Catholic Church in Orange. We have the best Masses, a wonderful community, lots of priests, great Adult Education, wonderful participation by children during the mass,Super duper great music, wonderful youth group, many community projects and so much more.
I am sorry that people are advertising not to attend because it is NOT Roman Catholic. We are NOT Roman Catholic and never pretended to be.
Some people in our community were formerly R C and have found a new home at St. Matt's, Some have felt for various reasons excluded from the RC or find their values differ.
We are a loving inclusive community.
Hey, wasn't that what Jesus taught?
There are many types of Catholics( orthodox, Coptic, Old Catholic, Independent, to name a few) . We are but one type with churches all over the US and Europe.
For a small church it has made a BIG difference in my life as well as my families and friends.
We love our catholic traditions. As lay people we are involved in the running of our Parish and Church. Members from all the churches under our communion gather and make decisions together.
I have found St. Matt's to be a powerful force in our lives.
If you a would like to check out a homily you can do so on line at our web-sight. Then come visit us. You will be welcomed. :)

Should you need the apostolic succession you are welcome to read about it. Information is available.

Can anyone calling themselves a faithful Catholic deny the competency of the magisterium to interpret natural moral law as pertaining to conjugal relations in a marital covenant? Should any couple presume to know more than the teaching authority of the Roman Catholic Church regards God's will as revealed through Humanae Vitae? Conscience can be ill informed. Conscience can be deceived.

  • SAINT MATTHEW ECUMENICAL CATHOLIC CHURCH is not Roman and this is it saving GRACE. This is the reason it feels that this church is closer to the original intentions of Jesus' teaching and is more authentic. The clue is in the word "ECUMENICAL."

  • I have been attending Saint Matt's for almost ten years now and before then had never encountered such a loving, warm, and welcoming community. Each Mass is captivating with its beautiful music, homily, and community celebrating together, all while upholding beloved Catholic traditions. All are welcome, just as Jesus would want. He would never turn anyone away. So why should any church?
